Making Adjustments

Figure 2. Video to JAMMA Adapter Adjustments

Adjusting Volume

Refer to Figure 2 above. To adjust the sound volume, tweak the VOLUME pot located just to the right of the AUDIO IN jack.

Adjusting Color, Tint, Contrast and Sharpness

The Color Saturation, Tint (Hue), Contrast and Sharpness can be adjusted by using the three push button switches located at the lower right side of the board.

There are four GREEN LED lamps located just above the three set switches. These LED's are labeled, "COLOR", "TINT", "CONTRAST", and "SHARP". The LED that is currently lit indicates which setting you can adjust.

To toggle between the settings, use the SELECT button. To increase the value of the selected setting, use the UP button. To decrease the value of the selected setting, use the DOWN button. Holding down the UP or DOWN button will automatically increase or decrease the setting by one "notch" about every 1/4 second. COLOR, TINT and CONTRAST have 64 steps while SHARP has 16 steps.

Other Adjustments

Although the Video to JAMMA Adapter comes completely calibrated from the factory, it may be necessary to make some additional adjustments when used with certain monitors or video sources.

Video Input Level (Bias) This adjustment is like the "volume control" for the video. Adjusting this turns up or down the amount of "video" the Adapter board gets. Adjust this control if the picture appears "white" or "washed out". The Video Bias control is located just beneath the VIDEO INPUT jack.

Horizontal Blanking Phase This adjustment alters the timing of the horizontal blanking in relation to the colorburst phase. Although the effects of this control may vary from monitor to monitor, adjusting this pot has several common results. First, if "lightly tweaked", it can be used as a horizontal centering control. If tweaked a bit further, it will interfere with the color (usually turns everything blue) and if overtweaked, it will actually reverse the horizontal sync polarity (you will loose the picture). BE CAREFUL WHEN ADJUSTING THIS POTENTIOMETER! Use this setting conservatively as a horizontal centering control or to correct horizontal "tearing" at the top of the picture.

Monitor Adjustments The picture may be further adjusted by tweaking the controls on the monitor itself. Monitors vary, so refer to your monitor's manual for adjustments. Most monitors have a BRIGHTNESS, BLACK LEVEL, HORIZ POSITION, VERTICAL SIZE, VERTICAL POSITION, HORIZONTAL HOLD, VERTICAL HOLD and other adjustments which may affect the quality of the picture.

Tips

  • Always refer to your monitor's manual for information on picture adjustments.
  • The newer the monitor, the better the picture. Old worn out monitors will not have as good of a picture or as even color as a new monitor.
  • Be sure you have the SYNC connected properly! The Video to JAMMA Adapter generates NEGATIVE COMPOSITE SYNC.
  • This adapter is NOT DESIGNED TO BE USED WITH PC OR MACINTOSH MONITORS!
