    Input Select

When using JAMM'N Tv! with an antenna, set DIP SW 1 OFF. When using JAMM'N Tv! with cable TV, set DIP SW 1 ON.

    Parental Controls

DIP SW 2 turns OFF or ON the Parental Controls feature. When set to ON, JAMM'N Tv! will no longer respond to the TEST button, nor will it receive numerical channel selection information from the remote control hand unit. This feature allows the user to program JAMM'N Tv! to tune only pre-selected channels (in channel memory) and channels selected by the HOTKEYS while not allowing this programming to be altered.

    Aux Input Enable/Disable

DIP SW 3 enables the Auxillary Input and adds AUX to the channel selection. When enabled, AUX becomes a "channel" between Channel 69 (99 cable) and 02 (01 cable). When disabled, the AUX channel selection is not present and cannot be selected.

    Aux Input Interlace/De-Interlace

DIP SW 4 selects between interlaced and non-interlaced composite video. When set for De-Interlace (ON), the picture will be improved when used with video game systems. Leave this switch OFF when using VCR's, DVD players, cameras or other video sources.

Setting Up the Infrared Remote Control

The JAMM'N Tv! kit is programmed to receive and interpret IR hand unit commands using the NEC-III IR communications protocol. Any Universal remote control will work with JAMM'N Tv! if properly programmed.

Your JAMM'N Tv! kit includes one GE Universal Remote Control. Here's how to program the GE remote control to work with JAMM'N Tv! :

  • (1) Remove the hand unit from its package and install the two AAA batteries.
  • (2) Press and HOLD DOWN the "SETUP" button until the red LED at the top left corner comes on.
  • (3) Press and release the "TV" button on the hand unit.
  • (4) Enter the code, 0004. The LED should flash twice and go off.
  • (5) The remote is now programmed. Write down this code inside the battery cover for future reference (you may need to re-enter the code when you replace the battery).

  • If you decide to use a different remote control, you will need to program the remote to use the proper code for JAMM'N Tv!. The best way to do this is to look in the book that comes with your remote and locate the code for NEC televisions. There may be more than one code, so try the first and if it does not work, then try the next.

JAMM'N Tv! will respond to the following hand unit keys:

  • CHANNEL UP
  • CHANNEL DOWN
  • VOLUME UP
  • VOLUME DOWN
  • PREV CHAN (Previous Channel)
  • MUTE
  • INFO
  • Random Channel Numerical Entry Keys 0-9

  • All other keys on the hand unit are ignored or are designed for other devices such as VCR's, DVD's, cable boxes, etc.

DIP SW 2, when set to the ON position will disable the Random Channel Numerical Entry Keys 0-9. This is part of the Parental Controls feature. If after programming your remote control you find that none of the number keys work, check to see if DIP SW 2 is set to the ON position.

    Controls

JAMM'n Tv! is controlled primarily by the joystick and the Player 1 controls.

  • Joystick UP is CHANNEL UP
  • Joystick DOWN is CHANNEL DOWN
  • Joystick LEFT is VOLUME DOWN
  • Joystick RIGHT is VOLUME UP
  • Player 1 START is MUTE
  • Player 2 START is PREVIOUS CHANNEL SELECTED
  • Player 1 FIRE buttons 1-5 are HOTKEYS 1-5
  • Player 2 FIRE buttons 1-5 are HOTKEYS 6-10
  • The TEST button is used to enter the ON-SCREEN SETUP menu.

  • Using the On-Screen Programming Feature

Most of JAMM'N Tv!'s settings are done through the On-Screen Programming feature. To activate this feature, be sure Parental Controls are OFF (DIP SW 2 OFF), then press the TEST button. Use the JOYSTICK UP and DOWN to scroll through the settings until you reach the setting you wish to adjust, then press the HOTKEY 1 (Player 1 P1) button.

NOTE: While in the Programming Mode, JAMM'N Tv! will not respond to any HOTKEYS, and the joystick is used to select which setting to use and to manipulate the setting value. JAMM'N Tv! WILL however respond the the remote control hand unit. You can change channels using the UP and DOWN arrows OR by entering a random channel number on the remote control's keyboard.

    Channel Setup

The Channel Setup feature will automatically scan the incoming antenna or cable signal and program JAMM'N Tv! to tune only channels that are present and unscrambled. All other channels will be deleted from channel memory. If DIP SW 3 is set ON, then the channel AUX will be added automatically after the highest channel in memory.

    Add/Delete Channels

Use this feature to ADD or DELETE a channel to/from the channel memory. Here's how:

  • Enter the Program Mode by pressing the TEST button
  • Using the Remote Control, select the desired channel using the numerical keypad. Notice JAMM'N Tv! will switch to this channel.
  • Select Add/Delete Channels using the joystick
  • Press the HOTKEY 1 button
  • The channel you are currently watching is now added/deleted to/from Channel Memory.
  • The same procedure is used to add or delete a channel.

Rule: When Add/Delete Channels is selected AND the HOTKEY 1 button is pressed...

  • If the current channel on the screen IS part of the Channel Memory, it will be DELETED;
  • If the current channel on the screen IS NOT part of the Channel Memory, it will be ADDED.

  • Adjust COLOR, TINT, SHARPNESS, CONTRAST

Use these features to adjust the color saturation, tint (hue), sharpness and contrast of the picture. Use the JOYSTICK RIGHT and LEFT to increase or decrease the value of the setting. COLOR, TINT and CONTRAST adjust from 00 to 63, while SHARPNESS adjusts from 00 to 15.

    Set Time

This feature will allow you to set the on-screen clock. Use the remote control hand unit to enter the time, beginning with the hours, then the minutes. If the hours is a single digit (i.e. 7:00), then enter a zero first (i.e. 07:00). The on-screen clock runs in 12 hour time mode.

    EXIT

Selecting EXIT then pressing the HOTKEY 1 button will exit the On Screen Programming Mode and save all settings.

    Other Settings

    MASTER VOLUME

JAMM'N Tv! has a MASTER volume control located on the main board. This control is factory set to MAXIMUM volume level. Adjusting this control will limit how loud the volume can play when the on-screen volume is set to MAX.

    VIDEO BIAS

There are two potentiometers on the main board labeled, "TUNER VID BIAS" and "AUX VID BIAS". These controls are used to set the input video level to the RGB processor. The "TUNER VID BIAS" is factory set and should never need adjusting, however the "AUX VID BIAS" may be tweaked in the event a remote video source appears washed out, weak or overdriven.

    HORIZ BLANK PHASE

This adjustment alters the timing of the horizontal blanking in relation to the colorburst phase. Although the effects of this control may vary from monitor to monitor, adjusting this pot has several common results. First, if "lightly tweaked", it can be used as a horizontal centering control. If tweaked a bit further, it will interfere with the color (usually turns everything blue) and if overtweaked, it will actually reverse the horizontal sync polarity (you will loose the picture). BE CAREFUL WHEN ADJUSTING THIS POTENTIOMETER! Use this setting conservatively as a horizontal centering control or to correct horizontal "tearing" at the top of the picture.

Don't Forget There Are Monitor Adjustments!

The picture may be further adjusted by tweaking the controls on the monitor itself. Monitors vary, so refer to your monitor's manual for adjustments. Most monitors have a BRIGHTNESS, BLACK LEVEL, HORIZ POSITION, VERTICAL SIZE, VERTICAL POSITION, HORIZONTAL HOLD, VERTICAL HOLD and other adjustments which may affect the quality of the picture.

How to Program the Ten Hotkeys

JAMM'N Tv! has 10 user-programmable hotkeys. These keys allow instant access to ten pre-programmed "favorite" channels. Player 1 FIRE buttons 1-5 are used as the Hotkeys 1-5 and Player 2 FIRE buttons 1-5 are used for Hotkeys 6-10. Here's how to program the Hotkeys:

  • (1) Select the channel you wish to use as a hotkey channel by using the joystick or remote control hand unit.
  • (2) Press the TEST button. The On-Screen Programming menu will appear on the screen.
  • (3) Press the TEST button once again. There will be no change to the screen.
  • (4) Press the hotkey you wish to assign to the currently tuned channel. JAMM'N Tv! will then program the currently tuned channel to the pressed key.
  • (5) If you wish to program another hotkey, you may enter a channel number on the Remote Control hand unit (the joystick is disabled when in the On-Screen Programming mode), then repeat Steps 3 and 4. Otherwise, select EXIT from the On-Screen Programming menu then press the HOTKEY 1 button.

  • Setting DIP SW 2 to the ON position will prohibit changes to the hotkey programming because the Parental Controls feature disables the TEST button. Using Parental Controls in conjunction with the Hotkeys will let kids tune only ten pre-selected channels and prevent the "smart ones" from re-programming the keys to undesired channels.

    Tips

  • Always refer to your monitor's manual for information on picture adjustments.
  • The newer the monitor, the better the picture. Old worn out monitors will not have as good of a picture or as even color as a new monitor.
  • Be sure you have the SYNC connected properly! JAMM'N Tv! generates JAMMA-standard NEGATIVE COMPOSITE SYNC.
  • This kit will NOT work WITH PC OR MACINTOSH MONITORS!
  • To re-initialize the system, clear all HOTKEYS and reset channel memory, hold down the TEST button while powering ON the cabinet. Release TEST button 5 seconds after the cabinet has powered up. It takes about 1 minute to fully re-initialize the system. Once re-initialized JAMM'n Tv! will default to Channel 2.
